Bubble gets a product to market fast. Then the rules get too many to test, customer data needs isolation the database can guarantee, bills become hard to forecast, or a buyer asks to see the code. At that point the app is the specification and the job is a careful rebuild beside it, not a rewrite from a blank page.
What I build
- An inventory of every data type, workflow, integration and privacy rule, marked keep, change or drop
- A relational schema with row-level security so each customer only ever reaches its own rows
- The new app built in parallel on its own domain, with weekly demos on a live staging link
- Rehearsed data moves with counts reconciled per table, then a short read-only cutover window
- A parity list written as acceptance criteria, tested on real records before launch
How the engagement runs
A written scope first, then fixed-price milestones with acceptance criteria, weekly demos on a live staging link, and handover documents. The full process is on How I work.
Proof
- Clinical Stack: Multi-location clinical staff scheduling with a rules engine that guarantees valid rosters, a chat assistant that drafts schedules from plain-language requests, and WhatsApp shift cover.
Questions
Can a Bubble app be migrated without downtime?
Yes. The new app is built in parallel, the data move is rehearsed until counts match, and the cutover happens inside a short read-only window at a quiet hour.
Can I export my Bubble app's code?
No. Bubble exports data, not application logic, so the logic is rebuilt in code using the working app as the specification.
Do I have to migrate everything at once?
No. A backend-first move or a phased move keeps the Bubble front end for a while. A full rebuild in parallel is cleanest when both screens and logic need to change.
How long does a migration take?
Weeks for a small app, months for a product with billing, messaging and several user roles. The inventory step is what makes an honest estimate possible.
Is leaving Bubble always the right call?
No. If nobody is using the app yet, or the pain is one feature, staying and fixing it is cheaper. I will say so.
